Abstract: Informal microfinance institutions are member based community organizations through which members collectively undertake various mutual support initiatives. They enable members to fill their adaptation deficitsby contributing towards access to livelihoods assets hence enhancing livelihood strategies through which they build resilience. However, despite the critical role informal microfinance institutions play in building resilience, no studies have been done to undertake a detailed analysis of their role in building resilience of rural livelihoods to climate variability. More so, no studies have analyzed the influence of informal microfinance institutions towards resilience of rural livelihoods to climate variability based on their contribution towards access to capital assets hence enhancement of livelihood strategies. This therefore necessitated a study to analyze the role of informal microfinance institutions towards resilience of rural livelihoods to climate variability.
