Abstract: The Baitarani River has experienced a general decline in water quality over the last several years due to agricultural practices, economic development, weathering of rocks, soil erosion, mining operations and other human activities in the river catchment. The spatial variation for determination of water quality index is used to find the locations of major pollutant sources that contribute to water quality depletion in the basin and also its tributaries. This study mainly conducted to assess and ascertain the physico-chemical parameters like PH, Turbidity, TDS, TSS, EC, DO, Alkalinity, BOD, TH, HCO3-, SO42-, NO3-, PO43-, Cl-, Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+, TC, FC, Fe, Cr and to classify the water quality and pollution status on this basin. These parameters indicate deterioration of water quality which is the result of various anthropogenic disturbances like industrialization, construction activities, utilization of agricultural and forest land for other developmental purposes. Other sources which contribute more or less in water quality depletion.....
